Next up in my ‘meet the bloggers’ series is Lylia Rose, a professional lifestyle blog run by Victoria (my name twins!).
Victoria is a Mum on a mission to be healthier and wealthier and I’m sure we could all learn a thing or two from her very successful blog – even if it did all start by accident.
1. Who would you say your blog is aimed at?
I have two blogs! What I call my ‘main blog’ because it’s over five years old and now my profession, is www.lyliarose.com and it’s mainly a family lifestyle, healthy living and making money online blog. I say mainly as I cover a variety of other topics too. I’d say this blog is aimed at someone like me! A mum who is striving to be healthier, who wants to work for themselves and take advantage of money making opportunities online, someone who has bought their own home and is doing it up and who wants to start leading a more eco-friendly and natural lifestyle.
Because healthy living is my main passion I set up www.healthyvix.com in January 2018 to focus solely on this niche. I was going to head this way on Lylia Rose, but decided I liked writing about all sorts of topics that interest me, so a second blog seemed a good idea! Healthy Vix is aimed at people who are interested in all aspects of healthy living, not just eating healthily. It’s about reducing waste, being more eco-friendly, exercising, creating a healthy home environment and eating a plant based diet. It’s aimed at others who are becoming more conscious of their daily choices and their effect on the planet, health and animals.
2. If you could work with ANY brand in the world, which brand would you choose?
My favourite brands to work with are natural beauty brands and healthy vegan snack brands. Just having the opportunity to learn about these new brands and test their products is always amazing. Many of these brands are quite small and independent and new ones are popping up all the time. It excites me most when I get to try a brand new brand like this and it’s even the first time I’ve heard of it! There’s not a big brand that I can think of that I am dreaming of working with.
3. How long were you blogging for before it became your job?
I was blogging for four years before I went full time. For the first three years I didn’t make any money and rejected any monetising offers that same my way. Then, after three years, I asked myself why? I saw other blogger income reports and realised I had a platform that could make me an income and I could potentially make this a full time career. I started accepting offers and investigating more ways to make money from my blog and it just escalated really quickly. Within six months I was making more than my part time job and decided to pursue it as a full time job once I’d had six months of solid income.
4. If you could write a letter to your sixteen-year-old-self, what would it say?
I’d tell myself not to worry about not knowing what I wanted to be! Not to go to university and to travel the world instead. That studying can be done in a few years once you’ve decided what path to take, instead of going to university at 18 because you felt you had to and then studying something you didn’t enjoy.
5. What is the absolute best thing about being a Mum?
I love being a family unit. I always wanted to have kids and a family and now, family wise, I feel very complete. Watching two little human beings, that I created, grow and develop is amazing.
6. Where are some unusual places you’ve visited?
The only thing that’s popping into my head is Calico Ghost Town in California! It’s a ghost town and it was really eerie when we visited – there were no other visitors there and a lightning storm started. It was really spooky!
7. What advice would you give to somebody who wants to start eating healthier?
Do it! There’s nothing better for you. So many people say I’ll start eating healthier on Monday, next week, on the 1st, as a New Year’s resolution, etc. Don’t wait – start now! The benefits are incredible. I am now plant based. I never get ill, my skin is the clearest it’s ever been and getting better all the time. Plus I know I am safeguarding my health for the future. Many diseases and illnesses take time to grow and develop in your body, so by giving your body the right environment inside you can prevent these from ever developing. A great quote I remember is ‘every mouthful is either feeding disease or fighting it’.
8. What’s your “go to” video or gif for a laugh?
I don’t honestly have one! If I’m not working or doing housework then I’m at the gym. I only use social media because of my blog and I’ve not yet jumped on the GIF bandwagon or spend time on YouTube! If I need a good laugh or lightening up, then I’ll find some comedy to watch on Netflix. I love Michael McIntyre too – his shows always make me laugh.
9. What woman inspires you the most? Real or fictional.
Any woman who is doing their own thing! Living their dream and making it happen instead of moaning about how they hate their life/job/whatever and not doing anything about it. I feel so inspired by the blogging community every day and seeing women so passionate about doing something they love.
10. What animal would be cutest if scaled down to the size of a cat – and why?
I love safari animals, so it would have to be an elephant. How adorable!
11. And finally, what advice would you give to somebody who wants to become a full-time blogger?
Absolutely go for it, if it’s really what you want to do! I think it’s amazing, but it is hard work. I work full time hours (and then some) on my blog in order to make a full time wage. I think too many people think it’s easy, but you do have to put the hard work in to reap the benefits. It’s definitely not a quick fix to make money and takes dedication and perseverance. if you love it and enjoy working by yourself then it’s totally worth it.
